ALEXANDRIA ANGELS / Powered by The Stack World

Alexandria Angels is an investing community based in London, UK.

Our mission has three pillars with the ultimate goal of increasing women’s economic independence:

1) Get more women on cap tables of the best deals to increase their net worth. We will invest directly with our typical cheque size at £25k in all founders, across all industries. Where necessary, we will create SPVs to enable women angels to access a deal, but with a smaller cheque.

Angel investors can play a critical role in promoting diversity and inclusion in the startup ecosystem yet there are often minimum cheque sizes that are out of reach for beginners. With the aim of diversifying cap tables this angel community will focus on getting more women investing in early-stage startups. Quality dealflow is often the preserve of the male elite. This angel community will use it’s network to get women investor in the best deals. An exit event is a wealth creation tool that can generate capital. Women with capital have freedom and autonomy.

2) Get more women funded. Around 2% of funding goes to female founders. Our community will hold a quarterly pitch night for female founders and invite our network or investors to increase the number of women founders represented in dealflow meetings. We reserve 70% our capital exclusively for women founded teams.

In recent years, studies have shown that companies with diverse leadership and teams tend to perform better and have a stronger culture. However, despite this evidence, women still face significant challenges when it comes to accessing capital, mentorship, and other resources needed to grow their businesses. This angel community will look to address these challenges and close the gender funding gap by investing directly into female founded start ups. In addition, we will connect female founders with our network of experienced entrepreneurs, investors, and mentors.

3) Provide learning and support for first time investors. Angel investing requires financial and legal obligations and we all make mistakes. Our community will provide support where possible on how to get started and host interviews with experienced angel investors on their journey.

By sharing knowledge and expertise from experienced angel investors, we aim to break down some of the barriers to entry to angel investing. Working with trade body organisations such as EIS and UKBAA, we will connect women angel investors with key professionals to streamline their investment processes and systems. Information is an asset and through community, comes confidence.

In terms of investment criteria, the angel syndicate will focus on Pre Seed, Seed and Series A deals in startups in high growth industries that have culture defining products or services.

“Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver.”

― Ayn Rand, Novelist and philosopher

I truly believe that women should be financially independent from their men. And let’s face it, money gives men the power to run the show. It gives men the power to run the show. It gives men the power to define value. They define what’s sexy. And men define what’s feminine.

- Beyonce Knowles, Artist & Businesswoman

“A woman must have money and a room of her own ”― Virginia Woolf, A Room of One's Own

Capital at risk. The value of your investment can go down as well as up and historic performance is not a guide to future performance. The returns of angel investment represent a higher-risk investment than a savings account and there is a high possibility that you could lose all your money invested from the community dealflow.
